Husky Howl – 2018

We hope this edition of the Husky Howl finds you enjoying this summer break.  Summer is a great time to spend quality family time, take vacations, hang with friends, visit relatives, and recharge your batteries!  We hope you’ll have time to do all of that!

Construction Projects
Over the summer, all custodians are working to thoroughly clean all rooms, wax all classrooms, hallways, and gym floors in our buildings.
Our big construction projects this summer are confined to our two elementary buildings.  We will be replacing two of the roofs at Riverside Elementary.  We will also be replacing safety glass and door handles at both Pleasantview and Riverside Elementary Schools.

New Faces
We’re proud to announce we’ve hired 5 new teachers to replace those who moved on to other jobs.
Our new Kids Club Daycare for 3- and 4-year-olds at Riverside Elementary will be directed by Darci Thurmer.  You’ll recognize Darci from our Discovery Place Preschool Program, where she’s worked the last three years.
New staff at Pleasantview and Riverside Elementary Schools are Preschool Teachers, Lisa Irwin and Shelby Thiner.  Ms. Thiner comes to us from teaching 1st Grade this past year at Ivanhoe, Minnesota.  Mrs. Irwin is a veteran Preschool Teacher with SW Minnesota roots.
JCC Middle School also has a new teacher.  Alex Hein will teach 7th and 8th Grade Social Studies.  Mr. Hein comes to us from St. James, where he taught middle and high school Social Studies.
JCC Middle School and JCC High School share a new teacher this year.  Emma Jirele is our new Choir Director at both schools.  She is a graduate of Worthington High School and looks forward to becoming a Husky!
As of press time, we’re still searching for a new Reading Integration Teacher and a new ECSE Teacher (Early Childhood Special Education).  Also, if our Preschool student numbers continue to grow, we may need to hire another Preschool Teacher.

Technology Updates
We’ll continue to offer our students a wide array of digital tools at every grade level.  This year, the entire JCC High School will have their own Chromebooks.  Our Kindergarten through 8th Grade students will continue using iPad Tablets

Keep checking your mailbox and email for beginning-of-the-year announcements and back-to-school nights and registration days.  Remember, the first day of school this fall is Tuesday, September 4th.  We’ll see you then!
